  • The Lark Center's mental health clinicians (MHCs) approach therapy from a trauma-informed and play-based lens. Each client participates in counseling though activities and interests of their choice, such as art, music, games, make-believe, or LEGOs. Therapy should be accessible and low stress.

    Our MHCs offer traditional individual counseling sessions to target social-emotional skill development, self-regulation, anxiety, depression, OCD, anger management, relationship building, and increasing self-confidence and feelings of self-worth.

    Additionally, our MHCs offer a variety of social counseling groups in order for clients to receive peer support, form authentic connections with similar peers, and practice their skills in a social context.

    Each client at The Lark Center has access to our MHCs if and when needed.

  • The Lark Center's occupational therapists (OTs) are experts in child development, especially in the areas of neurological, sensory, motor, emotional, and cognitive functioning.

    They are also experts in understanding an individuals full context and identifying the supports, barriers, accommodations, modifications, and learning strategies that impact their daily function and ability to meet their goals.

    Our occupational therapists use a dual-pronged approach to increasing a child's function and sense of wellbeing. 1) help the client to achieve more of their desired skill through individualized and targeted interventions, and 2) empower the client to make changes to the environment that will allow for more success given their current level of skill.

    Our OTs offer traditional individual occupational therapy sessions focused on improving sensory awareness, sensory and emotional regulation, body awareness, motor coordination, physical strength and endurance, visual skills, ADLs (feeding, toileting, dressing, sleeping, etc.) and executive functioning. They also offer a variety of occupational-therapy based groups to help clients practice their skills with peers, in a socially supportive and motivating context.

  • Our speech language pathologists (SLPs) are experts in language acquisition, language processing, and the impact language has on cognitive and social function. They are also experts in using low- and high-tech strategies to increase clients' access to language, thereby increasing client autonomy and decreasing client frustration.

    Our SLPs offer traditional individual speech therapy for clients that focus on receptive and/or expressive language, articulation, social pragmatics, non-verbal communication, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and executive functioning. They also offer a variety of social groups where their clients can practice their skills in context, and can work to form new and authentic connections with similar peers.

  • The Lark Center's physical therapists (PTs) are experts in motor acquisition, body mechanics, physical safety, and access to the physical environment. With their expansive understanding of typical and atypical anatomy and motor development, they are poised to help clients increase function and independence through maximizing their body's potential, while simultaneously maximizing the supportiveness and safety of the client's various environments.

    Our PTs offer traditional individual physical therapy sessions to increase strength, endurance, coordination, balance, safety, mobility, and independence, as well as decreasing pain, fatigue, and risk of injury.

    Additionally, our PTs offer sports-injury clinics, physical fitness and conditioning clinics, and consultations for adaptive equipment.

  • The Lark Center's feeding therapists include OTs and SLPs that have specialized training and experience with eating, feeding, and swallowing difficulties.

    Our feeding therapists approach each session from a trauma-informed, sensory lens, prioritizing safety, trust, comfort, and autonomy above all else. Progress is make through a combination of consistent little successes in clinic, and committed caregiver participation at home.

    Feeding therapy at The Lark Center is appropriate for any child that experiences barriers to chewing, swallowing, self-feeding, receiving proper nutrition, or participating meaningfully in social mealtimes. Our feeding therapists treat infants through teens.

  • The Lark Center's therapeutic educators are special education staff that have additional training and experience working in a therapeutic milieu and implementing strategies and techniques recommended by clinicians. It is their job to make sure each child has access to the strategies, accommodations, modifications, and tools needed to do their best academic learning.

    Our therapeutic educators lead our education-based therapeutic programs (MeadowLARK and SkyLARK) as well as provide additional tutoring, executive function coaching, life skills, and social opportunities.
